Some great news
Holy cow, I was accosted on the comments page of my own blog! I was told that I needed to post on our new and exciting news and also to get more pics up since we got a really cool digital camera for one of our graduation gifts. And with that said, I will have to post on graduation next time and include at least some of the millions of pictures taken those couple of days.
So to the exciting news.......
Daniel got a letter two days ago telling him that he was chosen to receive the Fulbright Scholarship Grant for research in South Korea. We had already made plans that he was going to apply for economics jobs and we were going to do that for two years and then head off to grad school. But then the letter came and we were given an opportunity of a lifetime. The first thing that came to both of our minds was the speech given by Dick Cheney at the university commencement(and I don't care if you think that he just has a speech writer do it, cause it was good and very thoughtful). He himself had a life that was different than what he had planned for himself. He told us that opportunities come and when they do take them. So we did, we decided that Korea was the best thing for us (even though it will set us back almost a year) and now we are trying to get things filled out and taken care of for our trip. The cool thing is that all of my mother's family is in Seoul, South Korea, where we'll be, so there will be a support system there for us. Just a note on my mom's family-- they are awesome! You may not see them for 10 years but they always treat you as though they have always been with you.
Daniel's research project is on the Peace and Prosperity Policy South Korea has with North Korea and its ties (or maybe effects) on/with the next presidential elections that are going to be held in 2008. We also found out yesterday that he was also given a grant on top of the Fulbright to study Korean at one of the universities there in Seoul. I am really proud of him. The Fulbright is a very prestigious award and he has definitely worked so hard to get where he is. As for me, I think the plan is that I am going to tutor English as a private tutor. According to my family, there are a lot of people willing to pay a lot of money to have an English tutor. I also will be working on my Korean. It is not very good at all right now and I am hoping that with 10 months of living there and having to speak Korean, I will finally pick it up completely.
I am just so excited! I have been to Seoul twice and I really want to take Daniel there. Plus, we will be staying long enough that we can plan on taking trips to different places like Pusan or Cheju island. And there is nothing that can beat Korean food. I love Korean food, perhaps because I was raised on it. It is spicy and delicious and I love that Korean food has strong and pungent flavors. Nothing is ever bland there.
Anyway, we will keep you updated and hopefully I will post up about graduation next time!
God Bless!

Hey, congrats on the Fulbright! That is SUCH a good opportunity! My mom's parents met when my grandma was in Austria on her Fulbright (more than 50 years ago now). It really is an excellent and life-changing experience. Good luck with everything getting ready to go! Will you still be around in July when we come? It would be great to see you.
yeah, we won't leave until the end of August, so we will definitely see you guys when you come down! Was your grandpa doing a Fulbright as well?
I'm so glad you posted Marquita! This is so exciting for you guys!
Congrats you two on graduation!!!! And Dan, that is awesome about getting the Fulbright! That will be a neat experience for you guys. That's funny that you guys want to go to Korea - Shaille and I don't want to go to Korea for the Air Force (because family are not paid for by the Air Force to go to Korea :). Anyway, we're very excited for you guys and hope we can get a chance to see you before you leave in August...
Congrats!! That is so exciting, and what an adventure that will be. That is an amazing honor for Daniel. We should all get together before you leave and when Shaille or Joy are in town. That would be a blast, I haven't seen anyone but Shaille, for a long time. Well congrats and good luck preparing to go.
